Today the weather wasn’t good, so no mountain hikes. Before I get on today, there’s an addition from last night. A brief break in the clouds around 11pm showed a little more aurora activity. I drove a couple of km up the road to get a nicer backdrop of the mountain Hustinden. The display wasn’t as good as a few days ago and didn’t last long, but was enough to make a reasonable photo.
Back to today. I headed up along the north coast to a few of the little beaches and coves. First was Storsandnes – a deserted little sandy beach.
Next, I continued east to Eggum. Much of the waterline here is rocks although there’s a little beach. Also, there’s the remains of a German radar installation from WW2 which was used to track convoys heading to Murmansk. I didn’t hang around long as the heavens opened at this point!
Next, I headed back west to the next beach at Unstad. Often popular with surfers it was pretty deserted today. There’s a small chapel behind the beach, standing separate from the rest of the village.
I headed along the track that runs parallel to the beach, and climbed a steep hill to a lake that’s tucked away between some mountains. At this point the rain began again, so I headed back to the cabin.
Tomorrow I’m leaving Ramberg and going a bit further west to Reine for the last couple of nights here.
